Ruby has left a big post on her official site explaining everything that she's been going through for the past couple of years in the music industry - and making a big announcement about the next stage of her career. (The Ian that she mentions in the message is a friend of Ruby's who posted a message just before hers)
Hi everybody (naughty Ian, I'll deal with you later!). What happened, per say, was a typical happening amongst new artists on major labels. BUSINESS COMPLICATES EVERYTHING. It's never just about the music, really. It's about the marketing, the business people around you, how ruthless you are willing to be (or NOT). And if there are more than one labels involved in your deal (as was with mine), you can guarantee one company's gonna come to odds with another, and you just end up caught in the middle, trying to sort out the drama. This is VERY common- watch Behind The Music every once in a while and 9 times out of 10 that's the story, at least on an Artist's first deal.
Well, after that whole thing went DOWN, I actually ASKED OUT of my deal with Polydor, and they were sweet enough to agree to do so. I then made my way back to Nashville and started rerecording a lot of those album's song (could've just used the recordings as they were, but would've had to pay the label a pretty penny for them), and I also started writing songs every day, and recording the new material. You probably don't know this, but during the time that "Sugah" hit in the UK and Europe (and Australia and New Zealand), I was already back in Nashville working on my next plan. I didn't get to tour... didn't do but a few interviews... didn't even once have the joy of seeing my video on MTV! That's life, though, Lovelies.
Anyway, back here in Nashville was not much more peace than in the UK. I worked to get a new team of people around me, but ended up yet again in the midst of more drama. It was a big wake up call, and I realized then that 95percent of people in this business are not the type of people that I want to work with. I'll spare you the details, but I just ended up saying "NO MORE DRAMA", and decided to throw myself into writing songs for OTHER Artists to sing. Writing was the only thing (IS the only thing) that has brought me peace in these last 4 years (did you guys knows I was signed to Polydor in 2001? You didn't see the album until 2 years later...). I am having a successful writing career, and loving every moment of it. It is peaceful. I control it. I don't have to worry about the *next phase* after that- someone else does that. Also, I have been blessed to reap what I was able to sow over the few years of being an Aritst. That has been nice. And one thing I have absolutely sown is the blessing of knowing and hearing from people like you. Have you seen the last of me as an Artist? I'll never say never, but I do know that if I give it another go, it will have to be on my own terms. Keep writing me, and I'll keep responding and keep you up to date on what I'm up to, and who's singing Ruby songs all over the world! Don't forget, though, that you can keep up with me more regularly on http://ruby.so-addictive.co.uk... Andy continues to do an absolutely STELLAR job of keeping that website active. Love him!
Yours Forever, RUBY AMANFU
p.s. Ian, what's a girl gotta do to get an email address? Search for Ian Berklee?!?! Heehee.
P.S. I want to make a correction- I know my video was on MTV as well as other video channels, but what I meant by saying "I didn't get to see the video" was simply that I was in Nashville when it was out in the rest of the world, so I didn't ever get to be over there while it was playing! I should've proofread that message before I sent it out, huh?! xoxoxo, RUBY AMANFU
Please click over to http://www.rubyamanfu.co.uk/guestbook to leave your messages for Ruby about this new stage of her career.
I've been searching on ASCAP.com (American Sssociation of Composers, Authors and Publishers) and I've found a load of new tracks written by Ruby.
There are four tracks performed by Ruby:
Always A Woman co-written by Aaron Rice, Ruby Amanfu, Brandon Fraley and Jamie Fraley
Stupid Cheating Men and Electro. written by Johan Pontus Winnberg (Britney's 'Toxic', Christina Milian's 'AM to PM', Ms Dynamite's 'Put Him Out')
Gimme Some Of That written by Ruby
These tracks are owned by the same publishing company that own Chocolate Pie, Bless You and Work It Out, so it's likely that they were unused tracks from the Smoke and Honey sessions.
After singing back up for Rachel Lampa, Ruby has now co-written a song for her new, self-titled album
Rubberhouse Rachel Lampa, L Tommy Sims
Ruby has worked with a variety of writers on the following tracks (no performers names are available)
Any More Than I Do Wayne Anthony Hector (O-Town's 'All Or Nothing', Westlife's 'Flying Without Wings'), Steve Robson
As If
Back To My Couch Johan Henrik Korpi (who is working with A*Teen's Dhani Lennevald), Mathias Johansson
Bad Example Dan Wilson
Be Careful Hugh Gregory Becker, Munoz Ximena
Before I Go Steven R Diamond, Anthony Michael Taylor
Blind Side and Facing Reality Keith C Follesse (who has written for Faith Hill and Marc Antony)
Born To Love You Kevin Fischer, Stephanie Seekell
Checking You Out (Checking Me Out) Peter Jens Bjurman and Olof Per Kalenius (who co-wrote 'Money', Infinite Mass's collaboration with Beverley Knight)
If anyone has any details on these tracks - please get in touch!

Ruby has dropped by the Official Site's Messageboard to post a Christmas message to everyone:
"Happy Holidays everyone. It's been a long time, hasn't it? Wish I could take time and tell each of you the many things going on in my world these past months (this past YEAR), but your head might spin! Please know that all is well, and I hope the same for you, too, and always! Much love to you, Denise, for stopping by the site and the uplifting message. God bless you always! God bless us, EVERYONE!!! Love that tiny Tim... RUBY"

I've reworked the site, so it should now load better for people viewing it at different screen resolutions and you can now access information more easily.
There are three new wallpapers for you to download, based on the tracks "Sugah", "Bless You", and "Because Of Love", from Ruby's debut album, "So Now The Whole World Knows". Check them out in the media section.

I've also added an Icons section, for you to download Ruby animations and pictures to use on messageboards and MSN's Messenger software.

Thanks to Ruby for posting a message on the board about the version of "Sugah" that's featured on the Jusin To Kelly film:
"It's me on that J to K thing. Was asked to rewrite the lyric to fit the movie. Not a new song, just a different version for the film. They used my vocals for harmony as well."
If you've not heard this version of Sugah yet, click here.

Thanks to "Adcama" - I've just uploaded a radio version of "Bless You", which is over a minute shorter than the original album version, and features some slight differences in the production.
I'm not sure if the song was taken from a promotional CD, or why a radio edit was made - so if anyone has any more information, please get in touch.

"Hey there... It's a holiday here today. We had a huge storm last night in which I held my little dog and stood in the hallway away from the windows, wide eyed at how big trees can be reduced to looking like spaghetti by tornado winds! I prayed that I wouldn't end up like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, and thankfully, here I am.
I'm about 45percent of the way through preparing songs for my next album. Next is production, then off to putting artwork for the album together, then comes the business side of things! It's a looooong process, and always ends up being longer than planned. I am enjoying the hard work, and in the meantime I am moonlighting with other friends' bands, and playing a show here and there of my own. Let us not forget 'Smoke and Honey', and let's also be trusting that the new album will be full of energy and truth just like the last! Don't know when it will be done, but I'll let you know.
Thank you for loving me,
Ruby"
I've been listening to a higher quality version of "Sugah", from the Kelly to Justin movie, and it sounds a lot like Ruby herself appears towards the end of the track. The movie was never released in the UK, so can anyone who's seen it possibly get in touch and let me know if she really does appear in the film, or if it's just someone doing a very good impression?

I somehow missed this post by Ruby from her official website at the beginning of April...
"Spring forward, everyone. It's so strange that I went out tonight and thought I was coming home at 11p.m., but it was really midnight! Does Europe have this clock changing thing, as well???
Jeanine I remember you, cutie! I'll keep all of you updated on shows, but I have to say I am in the trenches recording right now and it is total and complete yumminess! I'll come out of hiding soon, though, and actually I do every now and then Incognito.
Check out www.sambrooker.com, and whenever/wherever he's playing, I'm always usually playing, too!
ALSO, check out a new song we wrote and a video of it on his site!
Scott, don't remember you offhand, and the only Kevin I know is Augsburg, so email me and fill me in!
Love you all,
RUBY"
And some fantastic news from Sam Brooker's site:
"Here is a newly added live recording "The Here and the Now"(mp3 audio and wmv video) just for you. Guest appearances are going to be a regular part of this site, and here is my first guest.....good friend, talented artist, beautiful human being, Ruby Amanfu. This is a song we wrote specifically for the movie "The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood". The song got lost in the industry shuffle and never made it into the hands of T-bone, but non the less, a great song was born. We decided to share it with you this past Sunday afternoon in the outskirts of Nashville. It was recorded live and turned out absolutely amazing. Ruby and I are planning to write more songs to be posted here and to release a 5 song EP in the near future."
Thanks a lot to him for linking to this site. Make sure you check out the video of him and Ruby and support his work by joining his website!

Ruby posted a new message on her official site on 4th May...
"Hey! Just got back from a long and productive Writer's Retreat in the hills of Tennessee! Very very productive. I am a little spent, as it is 1 a.m. now, and I'll have to scoot to bed and write later. Lots to talk about soon. Love always, RUBY"

I've just discovered that American Idol finalists Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini included a cover of Ruby's Sugah in their much-berrated movie "From Justin To Kelly".
For some reason, some of the verses have been totally rewritten, and I'll have the new lyrics uploaded in a couple of days, in the meantime, click here to listen to their version, taken directly from the movie.

Today I got a copy of the Chocolate Pie promo from eBay:

There's no word on when this CD was released - if anyone knows, please let me know! The CD was only released to music insiders and could be either a fairly new release from Polydor, gearing up for the release of Chocolate Pie as a single, or was released around the time of Smoke and Honey to promote the album, and to gauge the reaction to the track as a potential second single.
The CD features the tracks Chocolate Pie, For Life and Know You Better, all of which appear on the Smoke and Honey album.

I've been doing some research on AllMusic.com and came across a few Ruby projects that I've not heard about before.
The most recent project, is the track "Suprise", which Ruby has co-written for former Aqua singer Lene's debut album, "Play With Me". I've uploaded the the track to the media section, along with the lyrics. If you're interested in picking up a copy of the album, it's available from most online CD-retailers.
Ruby is featured on rap group Mission's 2002 album, "One", on a track called "Now I Shine". Click over to the media section to hear a sample of the song.
Ruby provides backing vocals on Christian artist Rachael Lampa's album, "Kaleidoscope", and the accompanying remix album "Blur". It doesn't state how many tracks Ruby features on, so if anyone has a copy of the album, please get in touch and let me know!
The final project is Ruby's involvement in "Kids Picks Hit Mix", in which children "remake" current pop hits, such as Beyonce's "Crazy In Love" and TLC's "Damaged". Ruby is listed as a vocalist, not a background vocalist, so she presumably takes the lead on one of the tracks. Again, if anyone has any more details, please drop me an e-mail - andy@so-addictive.co.uk.

Dave Matthews, the man behind the production of Ruby's first album, has written a second article for the site about events after the release of Ruby's debut album "So Now The Whole World Knows" and how she started out on her path to stardom.
Click here to read it, and if you've not read the first part of this fascinating story, click here to read about how Ruby was discovered, and how her first album was created.
Take a second to visit Dave's site for more information about Ruby, and to buy a copy of her very first album - click here to visit the home of Lost Frogs records.

Dave Matthews, the man who "discovered" Ruby has been kind enough to write an article about how he first met her and how the "So How The Whole World Knows" album was made.
It's a fascinating article - click here to take a look. If you've not heard the album before, click over to the Music section to hear samples from all the songs.

Dave Matthews, the owner of Lost Frogs Records should be writing about his collaboration with Ruby on the "So Now The Whole World Knows" project for this site very soon - so be sure to check back.
In the meantime, click over to Lost Frogs.com to pick up Ruby's debut album if you don't already have a copy.

Ruby's made some more posts on the official site - including one about this site!
"Andy you are such a dear soul. You have given me a gift with the site you created. Now people anywhere can listen to songs from the album. Your passion means the world to me. Thanks a thousand times over...!"
I think I speak for everyone who has clicked onto the site when I say - thank you for the gift of your music - it's an honour to be able to spread the word! Even if the record company aren't promoting you properly, maybe the fans can show them how its done..!
Ruby confirmed that she no longer sings with a group called "Plural Z" - "I had to give it up to focus on my solo career, but I still support them and will be at the show with bells on. They have a new singer".
Speaking about a new release from Smoke and Honey, Ruby said:
"Another song will be released at some point, but it's just not up to me. Please please understand that there is a whole other side that is called *the business* that unfortunately dictates the release of the music in terms of radio/video. I hope you don't hate me, because it's not in my hands, and I hope that you can at least find some comfort in the album itself, because it's a form of music that at any time you want, you can hear any song you want, as loud as you want, and as much as you want. Thanks..."
Would there be any interest amongst Ruby fans in a full messageboard about her, where you'll be able to log-in and post in full discussion threads, rather than the current format of messageboard, as well as being able to post links, images etc? Please let me know on the current board.
I've updated the gallery section with a few new promotional photos, courtesy of the official site and Lost Frogs Records and also created a new version of the site for people with slightly smaller monitors (so the site now works at 800x600 resolution, as well as 1024x768). When you first visit the site, you may notice a slight pause as your screen size is detected.
Ruby has visited the messageboard of the official site to give us an update on what's happening. "Thank you guys... don't worry, I wasn't dropped...but things are definitely changing...for the better...and this is not the end!!!".
She also posted this message a couple of weeks ago, to a fan asking about the chance of her doing overseas gigs at some point:
To be truthful, Darko, and anyone else who has asked...not for a long while. There wasn't a big marketing push for my album, so unfortunately record sales weren't great, which means that I won't be coming to Europe for a long time. Sadly, that's the way the business goes- not getting enough support is a sad thing- for me and for you...
Please don't worry; I'll make my way someday, somehow.
Oh...and that's why there's no music on this website, though it has been saying "coming soon" forever... i can't get the people in charge to care enough and just do it. No complaints, just reality...
RubyAmanfu.com is going to be up by the end of the year, and I'll have complete control over that one...
Love,
Me

Welcome to Ruby Amanfu - Smoke And Honey. The very first fansite dedicated to "pop music's saviour" - Ms Ruby Amanfu.
Take a look around the site, and be sure to click over to the media section to discover Ruby's underrated new album - Smoke And Honey.
There's not a lot of new about Ruby at the moment, although there are rumours of "Just Until" being released as a single, plus the stateside release of Smoke and Honey.
Check back later for more news.
If you have any news, information, photos, reviews or feedback, please drop me an e-mail at andy@so-addictive.co.uk.
